The Eastern Kingdoms, also known as the "Eastern Continent," occupy the major set of landmasses opposite the Maelstrom from Kalimdor. They are generally divided into three distinct geographic regions. From the north, Lordaeron extends south to the great divide that separates the Arathi Highlands from the Wetlands. Continuing south, Khaz Modan stretches to the Searing Gorge, the major dividing landmark being Blackrock Mountain. The remaining third, terminating at the peninsula of Stranglethorn Vale, was commonly called Azeroth, though use of the name in that manner has become archaic as "Azeroth" now refers to the world at large.
